I prefer Signal but use WhatsApp for this simple reason

Signal vs Whatsapp app icons

When WhatsApp changed its terms in 2021, I was one of the many users who looked for alternative messaging apps for Android. While I had heard about Signal before, the controversial move by WhatsApp prompted me to actually try the app out. I loved it then and I still love it now.

But over all these years, I barely use Signal even though I prefer it greatly over WhatsApp. And that’s because of a major advantage WhatsApp has over the privacy-focused messaging app.

These are the 15 best open source Android games you need to download

I’ve previously detailed a list of open source Android apps I always install on my phones, old or new. While all those apps add utility to my handsets, few of them provide pure entertainment. That’s where open source Android games come into play.

Open source games might seem counterintuitive, but their transparency and alterability are part of their allure. They allow users to view their source code up and down or enjoy it as they are. Some have even spawned mods of their own, or started as remixed versions of older titles. Each of the games on this list stands tall in its own right. They’re all genuinely great games, and I’ve enjoyed spending time with each.

Why government red tape is draining your phone’s battery potential

You’re not alone if you’re pining for longer battery life from your latest smartphone. Despite emerging technologies like silicon-carbon cells, we’ve seemingly hit a ceiling just above the 5,000 mAh mark — at least for phones sold in the US and Europe. Meanwhile, glance over at models in China or India, and you’ll spot far larger batteries in otherwise identical handsets.

For example, the new Nothing Phone 3 packs a 5,150mAh battery globally, but bumps that up to 5,500mAh in India. The HONOR Magic 7 Pro goes from 5,270mAh in Europe to 5,850mAh in China, and the Xiaomi 15 Ultra stretches from 5,410mAh globally to a massive 6,000mAh in its domestic market. So what gives? Why can’t we have these same huge battery capacities on the other side of the world too?

I am a big fan of these “relatively portable” power stations. Their place in the market is solidifying right between the ultra-portable and the ultra-high-capacity models. You can easily take them places, but they are pretty powerful. If you’re looking for one of these middle-of-the-ground batteries, there’s currently a really nice sale on the BLUETTI AC70 Portable Power Station.

Cops in this country think everyone using a Google Pixel must be a drug dealer

  • Pixel phones are apparently the phone of choice for criminals, drug dealers, and gang members in Spain’s Catalonia.
  • Police say every time they spot someone with a Pixel, they think they must be a drug dealer.
  • The popularity of Pixels among the wrong crowd has little to do with Google phones and everything to do with Android’s open nature.

Police in Spain, specifically in the autonomous region of Catalonia, are very alert when they spot someone using a Google Pixel phone. As weird as it sounds, Pixels are highly preferred by those involved in organized crime, according to the Catalan police.

Oura Ring 5 wishlist: All the features I want to see

The smart ring arena is evolving quickly, but Oura still sets the pace. Its current-generation ring is polished, feature-packed, and impressively reliable. Yet, no device line is immune to the itch for something more. With new rivals entering the scene and wearables advancing rapidly, now feels like the right time to think about what’s next. The Oura Ring 5 is likely a ways out, but I’m already daydreaming about what the next model might include.
