Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 stuns in JerryRigEverything’s brutal durability test

  • The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has successfully passed JerryRigEverything’s intense durability test.
  • The phone showed exceptional structural strength despite its ultra-thin design.
  • Samsung has also greatly improved dust resistance on the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has just aced one of the internet’s most famous durability tests. In a new video titled “Samsung Z 7 Durability Test – The End is Near,” tech YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything put Samsung’s latest ultra-thin foldable through his battery of stress tests, including the dreaded bend test. While no Galaxy Fold device has ever snapped in half during one of Nelson’s durability evaluations, the Z Fold 7’s ultra-thin design had many, including us, expecting a different outcome this time around. What actually happened, however, was nothing short of remarkable.

In a true showcase of Samsung’s engineering prowess, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 not only withstood a forceful bend attempt, it came out with flying colors without the inner display cracking or creasing. Even Samsung’s redesigned hinge remained intact at the end of the torture test.

Samsung may be killing bootloader unlocking on all phones with One UI 8

  • Samsung appears to be disabling bootloader unlocking in One UI 8 on more devices than before.
  • Previously, only US models lacked the OEM Unlock toggle, but the restriction now seems to be spreading to global models as well.
  • A contributor on XDA Developers discovered that Samsung is likely stripping out the necessary code to unlock bootloaders entirely.

Samsung might be quietly locking down its phones even more tightly with the One UI 8 update. A new report from an XDA Developers contributor reveals that Samsung appears to be removing the ability to unlock the bootloader on more devices, including international versions that previously supported it.

‘Ok Google, turn on the lights’ is mysteriously broken for many users right now

  • Many users are reporting not being able to control lights or groups of lights with an ‘Ok Google’ command.
  • I noticed this issue on my speakers yesterday, but thought it was a random bug.
  • It seems more widespread, and the Google Nest account has acknowledged the issue.

Yesterday evening, as I went to bed, I told my Google Nest Audio, “Hey Google, turn off all the lights.” Normally, this is one of the easiest commands, and my success rate with it is better than many other commands that continuously fail and irritate me. But this time, I just got back silence. So I shrugged, thinking it’s a glitch, reached out to the Hue button on my bedside table, and long-pressed it to turn off all my lights.

Today, though, my Android Authority colleague Luka pointed out to me dozens of Reddit threads from users who are also having trouble controlling their lights. Turns out this wasn’t a simple glitch but a widespread issue affecting many Google Home and Assistant/Gemini users.

Google makes great apps, but these aren’t it if you ask me

Google is a software company and knows how to make great apps. I mean, I use apps like Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and Drive on a regular basis. Then there are its AI-focused apps like NotebookLM, which is by far the most underrated app in Google’s arsenal.

However, there are a few apps I think are way underdeveloped and need some serious work. They’re simply too basic for me, or lack many of the features you get with the competition. I know Google is all about simplicity at times, but it’s taking things too far with some of its apps.

  • The company’s consumer group president has revealed that over 60% of the new additions opt for two of its newest plans.
  • In comparison, AT&T added 401,000 postpaid subscribers while Verizon lost 51,000 postpaid subscribers.

T-Mobile added more postpaid subscribers than any other carrier in the last quarter, and according to the company, two specific plans are driving about 60% of those new sign-ups.

  • Google may be launching a new AI-powered “Call Message” feature that acts like an on-device voicemail with live transcriptions and summaries.
  • The feature works offline without using data or Wi-Fi and is likely powered by Gemini Nano.
  • Like many AI features Google debuts with new Pixel phones, Call Message could be a Pixel 10 exclusive launching next month.

Google already packs its Pixel phones with a bunch of smart calling features like Call Screening, Direct My Call, Hold for Me, and Call Notes. These features are powered by AI to make handling calls easier and less annoying. Now, it looks like Google is cooking up another new calling feature that could take things to the next level — an AI-powered voicemail system that works entirely on your device, no internet needed.

  • Nest Aware users are unhappy about rising prices despite worsening service quality.
  • Users are bringing up issues with broken video history playback, unreliable familiar face detection, and more.
  • Many are switching to alternatives like Ubiquiti or Reolink that offer better reliability and local control without subscription fees.

Google recently increased the prices of its Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions, but many users say the service isn’t improving to match the higher cost.

  • Google is updating the Fast Pair notification UI for TWS earbuds to make battery status easier to read at a glance.
  • The redesigned notifications include circular battery progress bars, repositioned battery icons, and clear labels for each component.
  • Battery changes trigger color changes for the new progress bars for a better visual impact.

A few years ago, Google introduced a useful Fast Pair feature that allows users to check the battery status of their true wireless earbuds quickly. If you’re using Fast Pair-enabled earbuds, you may have noticed that every time you open the case, a notification pops up showing the battery levels of each component: the left bud, right bud, and the case. You also receive a notification when the battery on any of these components is running low, prompting you to recharge them in time.
