This tiny Gmail change will make it easier to manage your inbox on Android

  • Gmail for Android is testing a new “mark as read” button directly within its notifications, letting users manage their inbox without opening the app.
  • The feature appears to be undergoing A/B testing with a small number of users, as it’s not widely available despite being on the latest app version.
  • This potential addition would bring Gmail’s Android app in line with its iOS counterpart and other email clients that already offer this convenient shortcut.

If your email inbox gets flooded with messages each day, it can be a chore to go through them all. One way to efficiently deal with this influx is to mark some emails as “read,” keeping them in your inbox without distracting you from more important matters. After all, you can often tell if an email needs your immediate attention just from the sender, subject line, and the first few lines of the message. Unfortunately, if you use Gmail for Android and want to mark an email as read, you have to open the app, as there’s no shortcut in the notification to do it. Thankfully, that could change soon.

Earlier today, X user Kurt Gomez notified us that he was seeing a “mark as read” button in his Gmail notifications. He told us that the button only appeared for one of his accounts, suggesting the feature is rolling out on an account-by-account basis. He also confirmed he’s on the latest version of Gmail for Android, version 2025.06.15. I have the same version installed, but I don’t see the “mark as read” button for any of my accounts.

I’d give everything for a pre-configured Android gaming handheld

Retro gaming handhelds have come a long way in the past few years, but there’s still one big sticking point: the setup. Every time a new handheld comes in for review, I have to spend hours installing emulators, fixing folder structures, and configuring a frontend.

Once that’s done, I still have to configure settings and shaders for each console individually, which requires arcane knowledge in popular emulators like RetroArch.

  • A new report from The Financial Times has revealed some concerning truths about Trump Mobile and its “Made in America” T1 Phone.
  • The company behind Trump Mobile’s network operations is registered to a luxury apartment and has a shaky public presence.
  • A Trump Mobile spokesperson told the publication that the T1 Phone is manufactured in Alabama, California, and Florida, but experts doubt these claims.

Trump Mobile came out of left field with a mobile network that promises telehealth and roadside perks and a “Proudly Made in America” smartphone. With bold claims of an Android device made entirely in the US and no clarity on who is really behind the venture, Trump Mobile raised eyebrows at launch, leading to more questions than answers. Now, a report from The Financial Times has attempted to answer some of those questions, adding more skepticism to the story, not just over whether Trump Mobile can deliver an American-made device, but over the credibility of the partner it has chosen to help do it.

  • Apple Wallet is sending out push notifications advertising the new film F1 The Movie.
  • Users aren’t happy about their digital wallet serving them ads.
  • To avoid these ads, you’ll have to disable notifications or turn off seeing card benefits within Wallet during checkout.

Apple’s original film, F1 The Movie, is coming to theaters this week. If you have somehow missed all of the advertising for it, don’t worry. The tech giant is making sure you know all about it by pushing ads through Apple Wallet.

Users of Apple Wallet are reporting seeing an unusual push notification from the app. This alert informs iPhone owners that they can use a promotional code to get a $10 discount at Fandango if they buy two or more tickets for F1 The Movie. While that may be a tempting offer on its face, users aren’t particularly happy about how they’re learning about this deal.

  • A blog post announcing OpenAI’s $6.5B acquisition of Jony Ive’s hardware startup “io” has been taken down due to a court order stemming from a trademark complaint by a company called iyO.
  • OpenAI clarified that despite speculation, the partnership with Ive is still ongoing, and it’s exploring options regarding the name dispute.
  • iyO, which already sells an AI-powered “audio computer,” claims the “io” name infringes on their trademark.

All traces of OpenAI’s much-hyped hardware venture with legendary Apple designer Jony Ive have suddenly disappeared due to a court order triggered by a trademark complaint. A blog post that once sat prominently on OpenAI’s website was pulled without warning, briefly showing a 404 error (h/t Max Weinbach). Naturally, this sparked speculation that the partnership between Sam Altman’s OpenAI and Ive had fallen apart. But the company has since clarified that’s not the case.
